Designing a majlis
Built around conversation and hospitality.
A majlis is judged by how guests feel in it. That comes down to where they sit, what they can reach and how they get there.
Seating along the walls
Seating usually runs around the room in a U or an L, so everyone faces the centre and each other, not a screen.
Floor or sofa height
Low floor seating or sofa-height majlis. We plan seat depth and height so older guests can sit and stand with ease.
Serving within reach
Small tables near every seat for coffee, tea and dates, and a clear path from the pantry so serving doesn't cross the room.
The guest route
Guests should reach the majlis without passing family rooms. Where the layout allows, we plan the way in from the front door.
More than one majlis
Some homes keep separate majlis for men and women. We can give both one look, or give each its own.
Softer sound
Tiled floors echo. Rugs, curtains and upholstered panels calm a full room. Several low lights feel kinder than one bright ceiling light.

Questions
Living room and majlis questions
Do you design traditional or modern majlis?
Both. Tell us in your brief and add a few photos you like. Many people mix the two: a traditional seating layout with modern materials and lighting.
Can the majlis and the living room share one design?
If they're separate rooms, the Three rooms package (AED 999) keeps one look across them. If it's one open space, the One room package covers it.
How many seats can you fit?
Tell us how many guests you usually host. We plan the layout around that number and show the seating with sizes on the plan.
Do you supply the majlis seating?
No. We design and give you sizes and a shopping list. Custom majlis seating is usually made by a local upholsterer, who can quote from your plan.
I rent. Can I still change my living room?
Yes. Most of a living room is furniture, rugs, curtains and lamps, which move with you. Check with your landlord before painting or drilling.
